I’ve been a bit quiet recently. There is a good reason for that. My humans went overseas in March to Europe, and while they were away, there was a bit of a problem.
My meningitis came back. I went back on my tablets, but they interacted very badly with me this time and I started vomiting blood. My grandma took me to her vet (I was staying with her at the time) and they diagnosed pancreatitis. They took me off my meningitis medication as this was affecting it, and I was in hospital for a couple of days. It was touch and go there for a while, and both my grandparents and my aunty-mum and uncle-dad had to make a decision about whether I should continue on or perhaps call it a day. Apparently my humans were very distraught by this, but couldn’t really do much being where they were. They wanted what was best for me.
Luckily, on the day everyone turned up at the vet to make that decision, I was feeling a whole lot better and came bounding out to see them. Crisis averted for the moment, but in the next few days my meningitis came back. The vet put me on the expensive medication hoping it would work on my brain without upsetting my pancreas. Lucky for me (and my humans) it worked.
It has been about six weeks now and I’m almost back to normal. I’m jumping on the couch, barking, playing (more slowly) and going for walks. There are some days where I’m not so good, and I’m still on the scary medication and have a no-fat diet, but things are certainly better than they were. On Saturday I had another blood test and my results were almost perfect; so things are looking good.

day is my birthday; I’m 12 today. I had my friend around for dinner last night and the humans made me spaghetti bol with cheese on it. Then I got a present – a very tasty bone biscuit with a candle in it.
Morgan made me some special treats today. She got a great book full of recipes as a gift and today she baked carob and oat biscuits. I didn’t like them at first because I was asleep when she tried to get me interested, but later on when I was in the mood, they were just perfect.
